How to chat all month without finishing your data
Data is not cheap, and nobody likes seeing "your bundle has been exhausted" in the middle of the month. GistUp was designed from day one to use as little data as possible. Here is how to get the most out of it.
1. Use voice notes
A one-minute GistUp voice note uses about 180 KB. That means 1 GB of data is enough for more than 5,000 minutes of voice notes. They are often cheaper than a call, and the other person can listen at 1.5x or 2x speed.
2. Keep Data saver on
Data saver is on when you first install GistUp. Photos you send are resized and compressed, and on mobile data, photos, videos and voice notes only download when you tap them. On Wi-Fi they download by themselves. Find it in Settings, Data saver.
3. Try Text-only mode in busy groups
Big groups can send dozens of pictures a day. Text-only mode hides every photo, voice note and video until you tap it, so you only spend data on what you actually want to see. Before you tap, you see a blurred preview, so you know what it is.
4. Watch your usage
Settings, Data saver shows how much data GistUp has sent and received this month, counted on your phone. No guessing.
5. Keep your phone's storage free
Storage and data lets you see how much space each chat uses, set a limit from 250 MB to 2 GB, and clear downloaded media. Your messages stay, and photos you mark to keep are never removed.
Step-by-step instructions are in How to use GistUp.
