Family at home, family abroad: GistUp for Nigerians everywhere
Almost every Nigerian family has someone abroad: a brother in London, an aunty in Houston, a cousin studying in Dublin, a sister working in Doha. The family group chat is how everyone stays close.
That is why GistUp is not only for numbers that start with +234.
Where you can sign up
As well as Nigeria, you can sign up with a phone number from the UK, Ireland, the USA, Canada and the Caribbean, much of Western Europe, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Australia and New Zealand. GistUp guesses your country when you sign up, and you can tap it to choose another. Ghana, Kenya and other African countries will follow.
Built for the family chat
- Groups of up to 256 people, end-to-end encrypted, so family matters stay in the family.
- Voice notes that use about 180 KB a minute, kind to relatives at home on mobile data.
- Scheduled messages: write a birthday message tonight and have it arrive at 7 a.m. Lagos time, even if your phone is off.
- Polls and events for planning the next wedding, burial or Christmas visit, with a reminder on the day.
- Five languages: English, Nigerian Pidgin, Yorùbá, Hausa and Igbo, so Mummy and Daddy can use GistUp in the language they prefer.
Bringing someone in
In GistUp, go to Settings and tap Invite a friend to send your link by WhatsApp, SMS or any app. Or show them your QR code under My code, and they can scan it to start a chat. Your phone number is never shown.
