Gist is here: share what's happening, your way

8 November 2026 · GistUp team

Sometimes you want to tell one person. Sometimes you want to tell everyone. Gist is for the second kind.

What is a gist?

A gist is a short public post of up to 500 characters and 4 photos. Open the Gist tab, tap +, and share what's happening: the traffic on Third Mainland Bridge, the result of the match, a new product in your shop, or just how your day is going.

People can like it, comment, Regist it to their own followers, or quote it with their own words. Follow people to see their gists in Following, or browse Latest to find new people.

You stay in control

  • Choose who can reply: everyone, only people you follow, or nobody.
  • Muted words hide gists you don't want to see, kept on your phone only.
  • Mute, block or report anyone in two taps. Gists reported by several people are hidden while GistUp's team reviews them.
  • Notifications tell you when someone likes, comments on, Regists or quotes your gist, or follows you. Turn each one on or off in Settings, Notifications.

Public and private, kept apart

Gists are public, so anyone on GistUp can see them. Your private chats are completely separate and stay end-to-end encrypted. Your public profile has its own photo and bio, so your private chat photo stays with your contacts. And your phone number is never shown.

See how to post your first gist.
